DECATUR, AL – Mainstreet Alabama has awarded Stogie Holdings, LLC a statewide award for their investment in Decatur’s downtown district from 2022 to 2023. Stogie’s partners, Steve Armistead and Yogi Dougher, accepted the organization’s coveted “Award of Excellence for Historic Rehabilitation” at the annual Main Street Alabama Awards of Excellence Banquet August 17 at Stovehouse in Huntsville, AL.
Main Street Alabama is a nonprofit organization focused on bringing jobs, dollars and people back to Alabama’s historic communities. At the heart of this statewide organization’s efforts is economic development to revitalize downtowns and neighborhoods across the state.
The award recognizes the investment duo’s renovation of the former Tennessee Valley Bank building, built in 1910, for Citizens Bank & Trust located at 814 Bank Street in the heart of Decatur. Stogie Holdings continues to invest in “The River City” with ongoing Decatur commercial and mixed-use developments McGhee Square, Bank Street Station and the soon-to-be-home to Decatur’s first urban market, The 609 Market, in addition to their $650,000 award-winning renovation.
Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority Executive Director Kelly Thomas nominated the project for recognition.
She said, “We have an outstanding community full of movers and shaker in our downtown. Our reinvestment award specifically shows that others are seeing why it’s great to be in downtown Decatur too — $60 million in private investment just last year. Everyone wants to be a part of Downtown Decatur!”
A Nashville-based residential and commercial development company, Stogie Holdings has completed projects throughout the southeast and beyond and expresses a continued interest in investing in Decatur. In fact, Yogi Dougher commented, “We are quite bullish on Decatur and the surrounding area. The growth of North Alabama has created a need for high quality, planned communities. We plan on several more substantial investments, and Decatur checks all the boxes for us.”
